A San Ramon woman managed to track her stolen cellphone using a phone tracker app and helped lead officers to the suspected culprit over the weekend, police said Wednesday.
The resident said her purse was taken from her vehicle while parked near a walking trail Sunday, according to San Ramon police. The purse contained the woman's wallet, phone and information identifying her residence in San Ramon.
While reporting the incident to law enforcement, the woman was able to track her phone using the Find My Phone phone app, according to police. The phone was reportedly at a gas station and then moved in the direction of the woman's residence.
Police said she called family members to watch her home in case the thief planned to break in.
A family member later saw a strange man pull into her court, look at the addresses and then pull onto a street around the corner, according to police.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the man, later identified as Dustin Freiberger, 34, of Martinez.
Freiberger was reportedly uncooperative with police at the outset. Officers allegedly found the woman's property, including her house keys, in Freiberger's rental car.
He was taken into custody on suspicion of possessing stolen property, burglary tools and drug paraphernalia as well as suspicion of forgery.
Freiberger's detainment was one of four arrests related to stolen property that San Ramon police reported this week.
Numerous auto burglaries were reported in parking lots along San Ramon Valley Boulevard, and a patrol of the area led to the arrests of three East Bay men for various burglary-related charges Monday, police said.
That day, officers contacted three suspicious people, appearing to be ducking down in a vehicle.
During the subsequent investigation, officers allegedly found shattered glass pieces from a vehicle window, suspected stolen property and window punches (used to break windows) inside the trio's vehicle.
Officers arrested Lavante Anderson, 23, of Union City and Andrew Peacock, 26, of Oakland for suspected possession of stolen property and burglary tools, and violation probation.
Antoin Jackson, 28, of Oakland was arrested for suspected possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property.
