Small sinkhole slows traffic at Bernal and Old Bernal

Pleasanton officials expect road repairs to continue into Friday afternoon

Pleasanton police are advising motorists to avoid the intersection of Bernal and Old Bernal avenues this morning because of a small sinkhole in the area.

Partial lane closures will be in effect for the next few hours, and drivers should slow down through the area while crews work to repair the road, Pleasanton police said in a statement at about 9:30 a.m. Friday morning.

The initial sinkhole appeared to be about the size of a pothole near the northern crosswalk across Old Bernal Avenue.

Drivers could access both directions of Bernal Avenue and southbound Old Bernal Avenue through the intersection, as of 10 a.m. Friday. Northbound Old Bernal Avenue is closed at the intersection.

This story will be updated as new information becomes available.
