Five seriously injured veterans will be awarded grants tonight from proceeds raised at a benefit concert last October at Wente Vineyards.

The concert, held to support the ongoing needs of wounded veterans in the Tri-Valley, was a broad-based effort by Pleasanton Military Families and local veterans’ organizations with a host of corporate sponsors.

George Bowen, the concert’s director, said those to be honored are Mariela Meylan, Cristian Valle, Rachelle Renaud, Frankie Stoneham and Jordan Chase.

Another wounded warrior, Marine Staff Sergeant Jason Ross, received his grant Feb. 17 in San Diego because his medical condition will not allow him to travel to Pleasanton for Friday’s program.

The event, which will start at 7 p.m., will include a presentation ceremony and an informal buffet dinner and costs $15.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6298 in Pleasanton, Pleasanton Military Families, American Legion Post 237 in Pleasanton and the Valley Veterans Foundation are collaborating in promoting and organizing the event.
