Police: Man tries to rob Pleasanton Baskin-Robbins

Suspect reportedly on the run after shop employees thwart his robbery attempt

Pleasanton police are investigating a reported robbery attempt at Baskin-Robbins at 4001 Santa Rita Road early this afternoon.

A man entered the ice cream shop around 12:05 p.m. and handed a demand note to store employees, police said. The workers refused and the suspect ran away.

The man was described as white, mid-30s, about 6 feet tall and 200 to 220 pounds, according to police. The man had facial stubble and was last seen wearing a gray beanie, short dark gray pea coat, blue acid-wash jeans and gray sunglasses with oval frames.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the Pleasanton Police Department at 931-5100.

Could be the same guy that robbed the UPS store on Pimlico not long ago. Also may have done the Beauty Salon on Hopyard before that. This is the Beanie Bandit.

Ok, we are getting hold-up about one per week along I-580/BART. Are these businesses doing anything proactive in conjunction with the police to prevent this stuff, or are they just passing the cost on to their customers? What are the police doing to patrol this area? I seldom see a police car around there -- they are mostly trying to catch speeders.
