ValleyCare Health System will host the 4th Annual Breast Cancer Symposium from 6-8 p.m. today at the Palm Event Center, 1184 Vineyard Avenue in Pleasanton. The Symposium is free and open to the public.

The event features the following speakers:

Dr. Rakesh Patel, medical director of the Targeted Radiation Institute at Valley Medical Oncology Consultants, will serve as the program’s emcee.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Hope Rugo, director of the Breast Oncology clinical trials program at UC San Francisco. Rugo, who also is a

medical oncologist and hematologist, will speak on the “Latest in Breast Cancer Research and Treatment.”

Other speakers and the titles of their talks are:

Dr.Rishi Sawhney, Medical Director of ValleyCare’s cancer program: “Breast Center of Excellence: A Beacon of Exceptional Care in our Community.”

Dr Ruby Chang, Medical Director of ValleyCare’s diagnostic imaging and co-chair of ValleyCare’s Breast Program: “Breast Density, what does it mean? Mammograms and Beyond.”

Registered Nurse Katheryn Darlington, a healing touch and guided imagery practitioner: “Integrative Medicine”

Light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served and door prizes will be awarded.
