Dylan Alexander, the 15 year old who was injured last week in a skateboarding accident, came home from the hospital Thursday after treatment for a head injury suffered when he crashed into a street light pole off Grey Fox Circle in southeast Pleasanton.
In an email to the Pleasanton Weekly, Judy Alexander, Dylan's grandmother, praised the quick response of the EMTs and firefighters for rescuing her grandson and rushing him to the hospital.
She also praised his brother Zack, 12, who helped alert rescuers by immediately yelling for help when the accident occurred, with the first responders rushing to the scene after receiving a 911 call.
"I cannot thank you (the first responders) enough for your quick response to get our grandson to the hospital," she said. "It has been a tough week for all the family but he is getting better slowly. Many thanks for all the prayers and support we have received."
Dylan, an independent study student at Amador Valley High School, is the son of Jess and Brian Alexander.

Neighbor, thanks for posting to not make this a string of negative comments!!! This happened as many things do, however the positive outcome is what we all really want. He is absolutely in my thoughts and prayers.

I grew up on this street, my parents still live there. Such a tragic accident. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

@ the same time, can parents please do more to ensure kids wear head protection when riding bikes/skateboards and those funky skateboards with the t-handles?
I see many kids riding w/o helmets on the streets and at schools. I know people think "My kid is safe" but lets make him/her safer with a bit of extra protection. + I am fairly sure it is the law.

Thank you so much for the update. I was hoping to read news like this that he is recovering. My prayers remain with the family and loved ones of this young man. And such grace being shown by the family during such a horrible tragedy is so touching. Be well young man. Please recover. It's clear you have a wonderful family there with you. God Bless.

I'm good friends with the family and chatted briefly with the young man's dad last night. Good news! It sounds like he's showing some progress in his recovery. Initially he was on life-support with three very serious skull fractures, massive brain swelling, and even bleeding. He was taken off life-support two days ago as result of making progress in his recovery. His dad says that he's starting to come around...swelling beginning to reside, etc. but obviously not out of the woods yet.
My own son and I were just fishing with this boy, his younger brother (whom witnessed the accident), and their father just about a month ago. It was a beautiful day fishing together! He's truly a great young man. Keep your hopes up for him.

I just wanted to thank you all for the love and support given to my son during this tough time. I cannot begin to tell you how much it means to us for all your prayers, positive thoughts, and overall love that has been shown to my son. He is on the road to recovery and its getting stronger with each day. It is a great feeling to know there are so many wonderful people out there. Please, can someone give me hints on how to reinforce teens to wear helmets? I have a 15 year old that never wears one and it's always a big argument. Can we get the police involved to the point the start giving them sitations. I know their busy but we need to start protecting our teens with our own visions for their futures.

My family and I want to thank everybody for their prayers and thoughts. I am amazed at what this community has to offer when tragedies occur or when a serious topic is brought to our attention. My son is doing very well considering the circumstances. Only time will tell on how well he recovers, but for the most part he is doing extremely well and hope to have him home soon. I've not been much for praying in the past or believing in a specific religion,but after feeling the positive thoughts and prayers given for my son and family I've come to realize much differently. There's a reason for everything. Despite what belief you have, there is a reason for feeling the energy and hope this community, friends and family has given me. I also understand the importance of safety concern that the community has as well as myself. Raising children and stressing safety are difficult tasks as kids can tend to disagree and argue. So please understand that we believe and hope that this accident might prevent or help others from happening. This has been a trying time for all of us and again want to stress how important it is to pull it together for everybody, everywhere. AGAIN ...... thanks to everybody. All prayers and thoughts are extremely wonderful and heart warming. Thank you all

A 14-yr old family member had a similar injury from a bicycle accident around 1970 with skull fractures, bleeding in skull, etc. He was in intensive care for a few weeks and out of the hospital after 3 weeks (no brain damage). I'm writing this for the family of the boy so they know that in 2013 doctors are much more able to help his son to a recovery so I have confidence he's in very good hands.
Maybe an E.R. doc at Valley Memorial can do a YouTube video talking to kids about what he/she has seen to get them to remember to grab that helmet every time they get on a bike or scooter. Prayers for the family and this young man.

Our grandson Dylan was released from the hospital yesterday. It will be a long slow recovery. I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers.We have truely felt the outpouring of care and loving.Thanks to all.

After reading comments the one from Cholo has made me think all day. We all know that helmets should be worn, if you have children especially boys you know you cannot follow them around all the time. As parents and grandparents we tell them what they should do but as children they feel like I won't get hurt. Hopefully from this horrible accident that my Grandson had some good will come. Driving around I have not seen any skateboarders with helmets and at the skate park that is also the case. Maybe Cholo should show a little more compassion to a young man who could have lost his life than the flat statement that was made. Thanks again for the support from the community. so happy to hear he is home recovering... my son is grown now and he would fly on his skateboard and I would worry so much... i am happy he is going to be ok!! our sons, they have no fear and just want to play! God is Good!
