An octogenarian from Alameda County went to a store in Hayward to pick up some milk and left a millionaire, California Lottery officials said
Friday.
Leona Starman purchased the $2 million winning Scratchers game ticket at a Quik Stop at 505 A St.
Starman, whom lottery officials described as outgoing, gregarious and funny, told lottery officials she may use the money to replace the roof
on her house and give her current car a paint job.
The retired sheet metal worker for the Alameda Naval Air Station told officials, “I worked on airplanes, airplane parts, whatever was needed
… but I didn’t change tires.”
When asked if she would use the winnings to take a vacation, Starman said, “I don’t fly. I used to work on planes and that’s why I don’t fly.”
