Human skull found on conveyor belt at Pleasanton recycling center

Forensic anthropologist determines remains belonged to Native American

A human skull was found at a Pleasanton recycling center Friday morning as workers were separating recyclables on a conveyor belt, according to Pleasanton police.

Police responded to the Pleasanton Transfer Station, located at 3110 Busch Road, on reports of a found human skull.

According to police, workers removed the skull from the conveyor belt after it was spotted among the recycling and told a supervisor who called police.

The Alameda County coroner's office was notified and a forensic anthropologist determined the skull belonged to a Native American, according to police.

Eric Lauritsen, operations manager at Pleasanton Garbage Service, said the skull was likely picked up by one of three recycling trucks that were in operation on Thursday.

A local Native American organization has assumed control over the investigation.

How completely disrespectful of whomever did this. Disrespect is an overused word nowadays, however in this case completely true. Have some respect for others and their cultures. Without it, this city is not going to be the place you want it to be.

Which kind of native american? Most of us are native americans, having been born here. Do they mean someone who shares certain physical characteristics of people who are presumed to have immigrated to this content across some land bridge with asia or from somewhere in South America, before either content was known by the name America? Do they mean people who migrated here from what is now called Canada? Or are they referring to any of the many other regions of the world whose people came to this continent over various times during the past tens of thousands of years?

Well, methinks WhichKindOfNativeAmerican wins this week's award for most ignorant post. I'll just leave it at that, except to say that he probably thinks himself cute for having such ignorance spill onto the page. Ah, but I have just re-read. I suspect I've been had by one of the ignominious trolls who populate these threads. Okay, pretty funny!
