Supervisors accept resignation of embattled colleague Nadia Lockyer

Alameda County board has 2 months to choose temporary replacement or Gov. Brown will

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the resignation of their embattled colleague Nadia Lockyer, who has been in a substance abuse treatment program and alleges that she is a victim of violence.

Lockyer, 41, who was elected to office in November 2010 after being endorsed by top state Democrats including her husband, California Treasurer Bill Lockyer, now-Gov. Jerry Brown and former Assembly Speaker and San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown, announced her resignation on Friday.

In her letter of resignation, Lockyer said she isn't able to be a good mother to her child and represent her 325,000 constituents in District 2

"while also trudging the waters of early recovery from addiction and the aftermath of interpersonal violence."

Lockyer apparently was referring to an incident at a motel in Newark on Feb. 3 in which she alleges that an ex-boyfriend assaulted her.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office initially investigated her allegations but then turned the probe over to the California Attorney General's Office because Lockyer formerly worked for an agency connected to the office and she was endorsed by District Attorney Nancy O'Malley.

Her District 2 seat encompasses Hayward, Newark and Union City and parts of Fremont and Sunol.

After missing several board meetings, Lockyer announced on Feb. 14 that she was at a wellness and recovery center. She began participating in

board meetings again on March 20.

Board President Nate Miley said the board will decide next week on the process for accepting applications by candidates who want to fill Lockyer's seat.

The board has two months to try to agree on a temporary replacement for Lockyer. If they can't agree on anyone, it would then be up to Gov. Brown to name a replacement.

Supervisor Keith Carson, the board's longest-serving member, proposed Tuesday that the board appoint former Supervisor Gail Steele, who represented District 2 from 1992 until 2010, to replace Lockyer until November, when an election would be held for someone to fill the last two

years of Lockyer's term.

But Jose Duenas, the president of the Alameda County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, said the board shouldn't appoint Steele and instead should appoint another Latino to replace Lockyer, who is Latino.

Lockyer is Latino? Really? She looks as white as George Zimmerman.
Anyway, it's good that we can finally move on from this to axe Hayashi and any the Dem criminals still in office (i.e., Bill Lockyer, Nadia's drug supplier).

Affirmitive action, baby! Don't hire the best person for the position, just hire the right color person. Look how well it's worked out so far. At least someone is feeling good about themselves and that's all that matters to us taxpayers......

I think its great when mothers are forced out into the work world out of economic necessity. But maybe its time to re-evaluate the wisdom of allowing women into the public realm. They may be nice enough, but they end up over their head. Sometimes theres exceptions. Like Sarah Palin who excells in her Fox role as sexy carnival barker. But I'm talking mostly about women as affirmative action appointees and electees in the Democrat Party. They just dumb everything down. It makes me want to vomit, if you want to know the truth. No it doesn't, not really. Mitt, can you help me out here?

I am a Hispanic and I am PO'ed that so many left-wing loons are always thinking about any issue in terms of race? We of course know that the reason is to rally thier base to vote for left-wing loon candidates.

Most people probably didn't even know, or care, about Nadia Lockyear's race until this loon from the Hispanic Chamber injected race. He would have been much better to have not brought it up because now a number of folks will think "well, there's another Hispanic doing dope and not taking care of her kid".

BTW, when are the cops going to interrogate Bill Lockyear about Nadia's claim that he was the one that hooked her on dope?

And, BTW, when is child services going to investigate whether the Lockyear's child should be taken away from them because they have demonstrated they are unfit parents?

El Hermano seems to be a very trustworthy man who is probably a loyal worker. Please go easy on his poor grammar and "reasoning." I would certainly trust him to do yardwork (provided under proper supervision) or clean out our stables.

Disappointing that being Latino vs. being capable is ever an issue.
I guess Nadia shaved off her eyebrows and painted on that surprised look to change her appearance?

Let's be careful not to do any profiling here! But, of course it is important that we not change the "demographics" of the Board without voter input, so we'd better appoint someone with the same color hair, the same type of "addiction", one abused child, and higher political connecions. That should satisfy everyone!
And, that would NOT include any former shop-lifters!
NOR, any former assembly-members!! Hopefully, there will soon be one more "former" one soon, so we can move that topic, also, off the front page!!

Oh you perfect people who throw your stones... be careful they may just hit you. As for Nadia, thank you for re-arranging your priorities .. raising your son and taking care of yourself. The job is a job, but your family is your blood that need you healthy. Your family is the one that will encourage and remember you.
