Safeway opened its new, Pleasanton Lifestyle supermarket at Bernal and Valley avenues Thursday afternoon with a festive celebration that included music by the Amador Valley High School band and opening day messages from the company chairman and CEO Steve Burd and Mayor Jennifer Hosterman.
Hundreds crowded into the store as doors opened at 4 p.m., although those under 21 were kept away because free wine tastings, along with abundant food samples, were being served. The Amador band played outside at the entrance to the store.
