Foothill students gear up for homecoming today

Falcons play Livermore's Granada with big dance to follow Saturday night

The Foothill High School campus is a sea of school colors, banners and flags today as the Falcons prepare for Friday night's homecoming football game against Livermore's Granada High School.

This year's homecoming week theme is a movie series with the sub-themes Pirates of the Caribbean (freshmen), Star Wars (sophomores), Twilight (juniors) and Harry Potter (seniors).

Students have had a full week so far of spirit building activities leading up to the Big Homecoming Game starting at 7 p.m. tonight and then the Homecoming dance on Saturday.

Scores of alumni are dusting off their letterman jackets, searching their closets for their blue and gold and making plans to return to Foothill for tonight's game.

Friday night's activities will kick off at 4:30 p. m. with the JV football game. Then at 7 p.m., the Foothill Falcon varsity team will take the field to battle against the Granada Matadors.

The game will be shown at 7 p.m. Saturday on Channel 30 with hosts Ian Bartholomew and George "Dr. B" Baljevich, plus Anna Kagarakis reporting from the field. The game show will include interviews with coaches, students and other guest commentators.

At halftime, Foothill's award winning marching band will perform, followed by the crowning of the Homecoming King, Queen and their court.

Game tickets are free for all Foothill students with an ASB sticker. All others will be charged $8 for admission to the game at the school's Sweeney Athletic complex.

Last Friday, Foothill High faced De La Salle High School at the home field.

The exciting first quarter had both teams running kickoffs back for touchdowns, but the Falcons' was called back on a penalty. Quarterback Kyle Kearns threw a touchdown pass, and later handed off the ball for another touchdown, amassing 13 points against the Spartans.

But it was a losing effort, with the Spartans winning 35-13 with a strong second-half performance.

Kearns was injured in the fourth quarter with a dislocated elbow but is expected to return to the field for the Nov. 4 game against Monte Vista.

On the varsity scene, De La Salle beat Foothill, 39-3, in a league game. The Spartans are now 4-1, while the Falcons are 1-4. This Friday, Foothill plays Granada.

Last week Amador Valley beat the visiting Livermore Cowboys, 14-12. This Friday, the Dons, 3-2, face De La Salle.

Terrible article. OK the first part about Homecoming this week was fine. But the second part about last weeks football games against DLS was awful.

You lead with the Frosh game from Thursday night, not Friday night. They lost to DLS 35-13. Friday's games (as always) are the JV game followed by the Varsity game. JV lost to DLS 49-0, the Varsity lost a good game 39-3.

Let's get the reporting accurate.

Nancy s.-
I agree with you! I posted an article about Foothill's homecoming game yesterday and they took some of my information and added it to this article. Then they placed my name on it without contacting me. The game information was inaccurate and untimely. What ever happened to recapping game results for the two local teams on the Saturday after the games are played?
