Domus opens today in downtown Pleasanton

Popular kitchen and gift store returns to Main Street location

Domus, the popular kitchen and home accessories retailer, will reopen its doors in downtown Pleasanton this morning after a three-year absence.

Domus (www.domusonline.com), which closed its Los Gatos store in May after 41 years, returns to its former location at 652 Main St. with plans for a formal grand opening celebration in late August.

"We are so delighted to be back in Pleasanton, offering a wide selection of unique and everyday items for our East Bay customers," said owner Margaret Smith, who has negotiated a long-term lease for the 11,000-square-foot store. "The community has made us feel so welcome already."

The Pleasanton store, which first opened in 1998, has been vacant since a couple that had leased the operation from Smith retired in 2008. Another Domus is located at 1395 Lincoln Ave. in the Willow Glen section of San Jose.

Smith said customers from all over the Bay Area shop at her store and at Domus online for kitchenware, home accessories, toys, books, stationery and other items. San Francisco Magazine once described Domus as a unique blend of Williams-Sonoma, Pier 1, Pottery Barn, Papyrus and Crate and Barrel.

At last! A place to get kitchen things that are not priced at 3 times normal and sold with a sneer.
Domus has been missed downtown!

Wonder why Domus is opening the day after 20 - 25k people are on Main Street for the 1st Wed. Street Party.

If they're ready Thu... wouldn't you think they'd be ready Wed. nite??

Not a great strategic planning move!

Shirley, I don't think anyone wants more stores to close. But the other stores in town selling things that can be found at Domus will need to take a little course in customer service if they want to stay in business. It is one thing to see prices that are well above normal retail but to have the owners act as if they are doing the customers a favor by agreeing to sell those items is a bit much.
It has always been a pleasure to see the variety at Domus. I haved never had a bad experience there. So for you "other kitchen stores" -- wipe that sneeer off your face, make eye contact and try to be nice.

After growing up in Los Gatos is it sad that they are closing but I totally can understand why. I was so happy when they moved to P-town and then sad when they closed. This is a great addition to P-town. Welcome back Domus.

After the Pleasanton store closed I went to the Domus in Los Gatos. The staff there didn't even know that our store had closed. Now to hear that they closed that store and came back to Pleasanton is a real treat!

Welcome Back, Domus!

My hubby and I went shopping there today (Grand Opening!) and it was so nice to see the friendly faces and new things! The layout is the same, the stock is updated and the sales clerks are happy! It was nice to see a clerk offer to gift-wrap a purchase without the customer asking.

Because of other errands to do, we ran short of time to linger, but I see several things to purchase the next time I'm downtown. Not just for me, but I see possibilities for Wedding, Christmas and birthday gifts.

(Note to Domus--please substitute the Los Gatos postcards for Pleasanton's!)

I'm not a big shopper at the mall, so I'm happy to see more downtown stores.

Welcome Back!
