Memorial service this morning for Derek Allen, 2006 Amador High grad

Died in bicycle accident in S.F. Oct. 7

The life of Pleasanton resident Derek Allen, 22, will be celebrated by friends and family at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Clare's Episcopal Church, 3350 Hopyard Road.

He was struck and killed by a bus in San Francisco around 5 p.m. Oct. 7 while riding his bicycle on Sixth Avenue between Geary Boulevard and Clement Street. Mr. Allen was a 2006 graduate of Amador Valley High School.

To pay tribute to his passion for the visual arts, a memorial fund has been set up in his name to benefit the Amador Valley High School ceramics program, which meant so much to him as he developed his artistic talents.

Mr. Allen is survived by his mother Karen Haley Allen of Pleasanton, and his father John Michael Allen.

A reception will follow the memorial service from 1-4 p.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church hall, 3999 Bernal Ave. There will be an open mic for friends to read poems, play music or otherwise share memories.
