Las Positas College will hold an open house from 3 to 6 p.m. today to show the public projects made possible through the Measure B general obligation facilities bond which voters passed in 2004.
The Open House will feature tours of the campus, student performances and presentations. Tours will depart from the center for the arts at 3, 3:30, 4, and 4:30 p.m. A presentation on the parking lot photovoltaic structures will beheld from 4:30-5 p.m., in the Black Box Theater, center for the arts.
At 5:15 p.m., Las Positas College will celebrate the dedication of the Barbara Fracisco Mertes Center for the Arts. A lifelong resident of Livermore, she was selected in 1974 to serve as the founding Dean of Chabot College-Valley Campus, Livermore which, in 1988, became an independent college - Las Positas College.
Mertes, who earned degrees, including a doctorate degree from UC Berkeley, has made innumerable contributions to Las
Positas College and the community. She currently serves as a member of the college district's board of trustees.
Her husband David Mertes is a former chief of the California Community College system and president of the ValleyCare Health System board of directors.
Las Positas College is a community college serving the Tri-Valley area of Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton and Sunol. It offers undergraduate transfer credits to the UC and California State University systems as well as more than 70 degree and certificate programs at its northwest Livermore campus. Over 9,000 students attend the college.
The open house will be held sat the college, which is located at 3000 Campus Hill Drive in Livermore.
