Danville man formally charged with possessing child pornography

Material found on both San Ramon work, Danville home computers, police report

A felony child pornography charge has been formally filed against a 40-year-old former Cub Scout leader from Danville, according to San Ramon police.

Michael Vawter was arrested March 17 after an anonymous tip that he had child pornography on his work computer in San Ramon.

A charge of possession of matter depicting a minor engaging in or simulating sexual conduct was filed with the district attorney's office Thursday morning against Michael Vawter. Vawter was arrested March 17 after an anonymous tip that he had child pornography on his work computer in San Ramon.

Police from San Ramon executed a search warrant for Vawter's work and home computers; Vawter led pack Cub Scout Pack 802 in Danville.

Vawter worked at California Coast Insurance Financial in San Ramon, and police said pornographic photos of children were located on his computer there.

"There were some there and there were some on the computer at his home," San Ramon Lt. Dan Pratt said.

Vawter was arrested at his home on Grassland Court and released on $20,000 bond after being booked in Martinez.

Police said the anonymous tip came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline.

I wonder about background checks, for such an individual.

With his arrest, Cholo will no longer be posting regularly on pleasanton weekly's forums. Anyone who posts from this point on is an imposter.

Background checks don't always catch this sort of stuff. There are plenty of things people do in private that isn't going to turn up unless someone close to them rats them out.

What's creepy is that the guy with kiddy porn on his computer interacts with kids in some of his positions!

Most child molesters and those involved with child pornography are in positions of trust with kids. They are usually citizens above suspicion and very popular with the kids and their families.

Web Link If anyone suspects an adult with access to child pornography, you can contact the FBI in person or you can submit an anonymous tip online.

FYI: the above post by Anonymous has been submitted to the FBI for investigation.

Background checks only work if an individual has previously been charged with one of these awful crimes. What about all the others who have not yet been caught? Those people are the ones we need to be watchful of!
