Contemporary ballet takes the stage

The acclaimed American dance company, Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, returns to the Bankhead Theater in Livermore for one night only - at 8 p.m., Saturday April 10 - with an exciting program that exemplifies its innovative style of classical and contemporary ballet.

Known for its wide-ranging and adventurous repertoire, the company has commissioned works by some of the leading choreographers in the field of dance, including Jorma Elo whose work "Red Sweet" will anchor this performance. The 10 dancers who make up the company are renowned for their powerful athleticism and lyrical grace - their precision of movement, plus stunning costumes and lighting, makes for a wonderful evening of dance.

Aspen Santa Fe Ballet's program at the Bankhead will include "Slingerland" a contemporary pas de deux set to Gavin Bryars String Quartet No 1., as well as "In Hidden Seconds" by American choreographer Nicolo Fonte, and "Fugaz."

Tickets range from $26 to $46 with $12 student tickets. Contact the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center at 373-6100 or www.livermoreperformingarts.org www.livermoreperformingarts.org.
