March for better California schools en route to Livingston today

365-mile trek attracting strong support in Central Valley walk

A diverse group of Californians, marching from Bakersfield to Sacramento on a 365‐mile trek to rally public support for better schools, is walking from Atwater to Livingston today and then on to Turlock on Easter Sunday.

Among the marchers are a San Diego community college professor, a Los Angeles probation officer, a Watsonville teacher, a Marina del Rey substitute teacher and a retired Los Angeles teacher.

Local teachers, students and community members will join the marchers next Monday at Donnelly Park in Turlock to protest further cuts in state aid. On Wednesday, the marchers will join Modesto supporters at 2 p.m. at Modesto Junior College and then at 4 p.m. for a rally at Graceada Park.

Readers can follow the marchers through the Central Valley as they continue their 48‐day "March for California's Future." For more information, visit

This is nothing more than a union backed campaign for the initiative to lower the 2/3 vote requirement to pass a CA state budget, wrapped in a 'better schools' rallying cry. The website has all the details including a 'coalition supporters' list full of unions and affiliates. Although this 'news article' is factual, it is completely void of what is really behind this walk. The PW can do better, much better. Wake up.

I agree with the previous poster--down with schools!

Also, ape must never kill ape!
