Child porn on San Ramon work computer leads to arrest

Cub Scout leader seized at his Danville home

San Ramon police arrested a Cub Scout leader at his Danville home Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

The San Ramon Police Department received an anonymous tip stating that the suspect, Michael Vawter, possessed child pornography on his work computer at a business in San Ramon, according to police reports. The San Ramon Police Department obtained and served a search warrant for the suspect's work computer and his residence in Danville.

Photos depicting pornographic images of children were located on Vawter's work computer, said San Ramon police. Vawter, 40, is a Cub Scout den leader in Danville.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of possession or control of matter depicting minors engaging or simulating sexual conduct at 3:04 p.m. at his home on Grassland Court and booked at the Main Detention Facility in Martinez with a bail of $20,000. The case remains under investigation.

The anonymous tip came from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's CyberTipline.
