'Girltopia' show set for tonight as Scouts raise money for Haiti

'We want to help,' says senior Girl Scout McCoy-Thompson

Pleasanton Girl Scout troop 31473 will host its "Girltopia" show from 7:30 to 9 p.m. tonight at Pleasanton Middle School, a performance to raise money for UNICEF's Haiti Earthquake Fund and to raise awareness of girls' rights around the world.

"There is no better cause that is more relevant or deserving right now than Haiti," said senior Girl Scout Marie McCoy-Thompson. "It has experienced a devastating loss. We would like to do what we can to help."

The show will include interactive games and artistic showcases to symbolize girls' positions in societies around the world.

Tonight's event is the culmination of a few months' work, including learning and discussing the challenges faced by girls and women around the world.

Making the world a better place is the first step, but taking action is what counts, organizers said.

Admission to the event is free with donations accepted. Pleasanton Middle School is located at 5001 Case Ave.
