Opening Day for the Pleasanton Girls Softball League (PGSL) and the boys Little League teams has been re-scheduled to next Saturday, March 20.
The start-up games were cancelled Saturday due to poor field conditions resulting from last week's rainfall, which was especially heavy Friday afternoon.
Mark Spiller, the city's community services manager, said all city and school district fields are open and suitable for practice today, except for Field No. 9 in Sports Park, and the Upper Bernal field, which remain too soggy for use.
"We are asking (everyone) to inspect the turf areas to ensure the fields are safe to play since there are a few wet spots on the grass areas," Spiller said.
He said all fields will be evaluated daily in the week ahead to make sure they're suitable for play. That information will be available here as well as at the city's sports Website, www.pleasantonsports.org.
The Pleasanton Foothill Little League (PFLL) has announced that it will launch its 2010 season with a ceremony at 10 a.m. next Saturday at the new Bernal Community Park fields, where it will play its games this season.
The two other boys teams--the Pleasanton American Little League (PALL) and the Pleasanton National Little League (PNLL)--posted notices on their Websites that Saturday's games were being cancelled but have not yet indicated when those games be played.
For the girls, Terri Molina, the PGSL's publicity manager, said opening day ceremonies are now scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday on fields 6 and 7 in Sports Park.
Both the PGSL and the PFLL had planned colorful opening day ceremonies before last Saturday's games were cancelled. Details of next Saturday's ceremonies will be posted as soon as those leagues complete those arrangements.
