In a special meeting at the school district office, the school board will conduct a budget hearing at 5:30 p.m. this afternoon and possibly decide to approve items to be supported by a community fundraising effort.
While the Pleasanton Unified School District's budget forecast is brighter with the recent concessions from the Association of Pleasanton Teachers, the teachers' union, another several million dollars still needs to be cut.
The final budget figure from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to be released sometime in May. Before then, the school board is required by law to send out notices of possible layoffs to affected employees by March 15.
Tonight's meeting will not be televised live, but will be webcast on the school district website and a videotape of the meeting will be broadcast on TV30's Channel 28 at a later time.
