Workshop today focuses on issues facing children, teens

Purpose is to generate feedback for update of city Youth Master Plan

The city is hosting a workshop starting at 10 a.m. today on issues facing children, teens and young adults.

The workshop is bing hed in the Pleasanton Public Library Community Room.

The purpose of the workshop is to generate feedback on a draft vision, values and goals document that will be used to update the city's existing Youth Master Plan. The draft values and goals emerged from a series of stakeholder meetings and focus groups that were conducted over the past year and the results of the Got Opinions? online surveys (one for adults and another for youth) that were available from July to September 2009.

The Youth Master Plan has been in effect for approximately nine years and serves as a strategic roadmap to assist the City and School District in setting priorities and programs for youth and families in Pleasanton. The current plan addresses issues such as childcare and supervised youth activities, jobs, communication, and health, among other issues. The ptown 411 website for youth and the BMX bike park are two successful and tangible results that have emerged from the previous master plan process.

All Pleasanton residents are invited to attend. RSVP by emailing youthmasterplanupdate@ci.pleasanton.ca.us, or call 931-5001. Attendees will be eligible for prizes and must be present to win.
