Search firm seeks public input tonight on new district superintendent

A follow-up meeting for finding John Casey's replacement will be held next week

A community forum conducted by the search firm hired to find the Pleasanton Unified School District's new superintendent will be held at 7 p.m. tonight in the district board room. Superintendent John Casey, who has been with the district since 2002, will retire after June 30.

Hazard, Young and Attea & Associates, LTD, the consulting firm hired by PUSD, will also hold a second meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 14.

The purpose of these meetings are to survey community stakeholders and learn more about the desired traits of a future superintendent. Having signed a contract with PUSD, this would be one of the first steps HYA will take in finding potential candidates.

Board president Chris Grant said HYA's base consulting fee is $21,500, with other out-of-pocket expenses, such as advertising and traveling to forums and interviews, as well as additional services could cost the district between $28,000 and $31,000. Grant said he and trustee Valerie Arkin were able to negotiate some "a la carte" items for free.

The PUSD offices are located at 4665 Bernal Ave. For more information, call the district at 462-5500.
