Scouts to pick up Christmas trees next Saturday--Jan. 9

Make sure to register for service, then have trees curbside by 8 a.m.

Local Scouts will pick up discarded Christmas trees next Saturday--Jan. 9--for Pleasanton residents who register for the service and who have their trees curbside by 8 a.m. that day.

There's no charge for the service although donations are requested and, along with registration, can be made online with a credit card.

Boy Scout Troop 941 and Venture Crew 940 conduct the annual pickup as fundraisers for troop activities. Funds raised are used to pay for camping equipment and scouting activities such as summer camp and weekend outings.

Residents can register ahead of time in the following ways: filling out an electronic form, printing out a registration form and mailing it in, or calling 399-1377.

Trees must be in the driveway or at the curb by 8 a.m. At that time, scouts will start picking up trees, but it's a day-long process to finish the job. Tree stands should be removed. Payment should not be attached to the tree.

Donations are not required, but donations are recommended to help the boys out for their hard work -- $5 for trees 8 feet and under, $10 for taller trees and an additional $5 for flocked trees.
