More than 1,000 drivers arrested in Bay Area for DUIs so far in holiday period

125 law enforcement agencies coordinating efforts to curb driving under influence

Law enforcement agencies throughout the Bay Area have arrested 1,075 people for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol this holiday season.

One death also has been attributed to an impaired driver on local roads since the Bay Area Regional Anti-DUI campaign started Dec. 18.

The 125 law enforcement agencies will continue their efforts through New Year's Day.

During last year's Winter AVOID campaign, there were 3,261 DUI arrests and one fatal crash.
