Final day for Junior Olympics swim meet at Pleasanton's aquatic center

2,000 swimmers with families here for 3-day event sponsored by Pleasanton Seahawks

Competition finals are under way from 6:30 this morning to about 5 p.m. in the final day of the Junior Olympics swim meet at the Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center on Black Avenue, being hosted by the Pleasanton Seahawks.

Despite the cold temperatures, hundreds of swimmers are making the leap into warmer 70-degree water at the center, then wrapping themselves quickly in heavy blankets provided by their parents.

Many then move into swim team tents for shelter from the cold during wait times between events. The Seahawks also has two heated tents for swimmers and their families.

Approximately 2,000 swimmers and their family and friends converged on the Pleasanton center and Amador Community Park Friday for the three-day competition.

Admission is free to this fun-filled event.
