Las Positas College commemorates Veterans Day with day of events

Travis Air Force Base honor guard joins in fundraiser for college veterans organization

Las Positas Community College commemorated Veterans Day yesterday with a host of events honoring the military and their service to the country.

The day's events got under way in the morning with displays from military and veterans organizations, including a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter that was on display in the quad area. At 11 a.m., the Travis Air Force Honor Guard gave a Presentation of Colors. At lunchtime, the college sponsored a barbecue (free for veterans) and taps was played by David Kratochvil at 5 p.m. at the college's tutorial center.

There was also be a fundraiser at TGI Friday's in Pleasanton last night to support LPC Veterans. All veterans ate free with 20 percent of the proceeds donated to the Las Positas Student Veterans Organization.
