Marilyn Kane trail in Bernal Park to be dedicated today

Multi-use trail runs along Arroyo de la Laguna between Bernal, Castlewood Country Club

A public dedication of the new Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail that surrounds Bernal Community Park in Pleasanton will be held at 10 a.m. today.

The ceremony and reception will be held at the trailhead, located at 3200 W. Lagoon Road, south of Bernal Avenue. Parking is limited and carpooling is encouraged.

Construction of the trail was donated in memory of Marilyn Murphy Kane by her husband Jim, children Tom, Lisa and Bruce, and her grandchildren. Kane was a vibrant supporter of park development and lobbied extensively to develop the pristine parcel into what has now become Bernal Community Park.

The new multi-purpose Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail encircles the park, running along the east side of Arroyo de la Laguna between Bernal Avenue and the northern limit of Castlewood Country Club, according to city spokeswoman Joanne Hall. It includes three vista points with benches and landscaping and comprises a total length of approximately 1.1 miles.

The trail is 12 feet wide including 10 feet of asphalt concrete and 2 feet of decomposed granite path. The trail head is located in a staging area with arbor structures, drinking fountain, benches and parking stalls that are accessible by West Lagoon Road.

Thanks Marilyn. Thanks Jim. And thank you Tom, Lisa and Bruce. What a wonderful way to remember the walks that Marilyn and Jim took along the arroyo, and how much Marilyn loved walking, nature, parks, her family and her town. What a wonderful thing for you to do for Pleasanton. Thank you.

A spirited heart. I can remember Tom and Lisa in the same way during our school days. Thank you very much for your families generosity.

Thanks to the Kane Family for their generous donation to our city with this wonderful gift. The trail is beautiful and with it's connection to the Bernal Creek Trail, it's a great start to the master planned park we'll have down the road. I was fortunate to speak with Marilyn years ago about her ideas about the Bernal Community Park and what her family have done here is a wonderful tribute to her legacy. Thanks so much!

The Kane family is part of some of my best memories of Pleasanton. Mrs. Kane's spirit will continue to live and grow with us as we walk the beautiful trail and sit on the soon-to-be-dedicated benches.
