Longtime Pleasanton resident Jill Buck is spearheading a local effort to donate clothing items for homeless military veterans.

On Nov. 10, the San Francisco County Veterans Services Office and Project Homeless Connect will hold an event in San Francisco designed to help service members receive clothing and food.

Locally, Buck, who serves on the Veteran’s Affairs Commission for San Francisco and is a former naval officer, will be collecting clothing through Nov. 8. Those interested in donating can drop off men’s work clothes in good condition (suits, shirts, pants, ties, belts, shoes) to Buck’s Pleasanton home, 2529 Via Espada. Items may be left on the porch.

Buck said there are also other ways the community can help. Volunteers are needed for the Nov. 10 event at the San Francisco VA Clinic, located at 3rd and Harrison streets. Help is needed in preparing box lunches, passing out clothing and helping veterans find their way through the clinic. For information on that, call Amy Golsong at 415-503-2190.

Another way to help could be through donating money to buy food, which will be served at the event. Donations can be mailed to Project Homeless Connect, P.O. Box 420404, San Francisco, CA 94142 (Attn: Veterans Connect). Donations will be acknowledged by a letter to the donor along with the tax ID number for the nonprofit.
