Woman motorist dies in accident on southbound I-680 in Milpitas

Solo crash involved red 2000 Pontiac Grand-Am

A woman died after a vehicle traveled off southbound Interstate Highway 680 and landed upside down on East Calaveras Boulevard in Milpitas Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office.

The solo-vehicle crash involving a red 2000 Pontiac Grand-Am was reported around 12:15 p.m., CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.

A woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is not being released until the next of kin is notified, according to the medical examiner's office.

The vehicle went through a construction zone and damaged a reinforcing steel bar, Caggiano said.

East Calaveras Boulevard was blocked while the crash was investigated, and the far left lane of southbound Highway 680 was closed until about 5:10 p.m. while crews made repairs to the construction zone, according to Caggiano.
