Pleasanton man carjacked in Dublin theater parking lot

A 53-year-old Pleasanton man was carjacked around 10:30 p.m. Sunday near the Regal Cinemas in Dublin, according to Dublin police.

Lt. Kurt Von Savoye said the suspect, described as a Latino man between 19 to 22 years old, approached the victim, who was alone, in the western portion of the parking lot. He allegedly displayed a gun and demanded the man hand over keys to the victim's black, 2006 Chrysler 300.

The alleged gunman was further described as having short black hair, weighing 140 pounds and wearing a white T-shirt and baggy black pants. The car has not yet been located and has California license plate No. 5PXW578.

Von Savoye said the investigation is ongoing and that it's "certainly not a common occurrence in Dublin."

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Dublin police at 462-1212.

Where I come from carjacking means you are required by the criminal to keep him company in the car while you, typically, drive to your ATM machine to withdraw money for his personal use. Then, hopefully, your presence in no longer required. In this case, the car was just stolen from him.

Get ready Tri-Valley...the thugs living west of us are coming over the hills. BART will only get them over here faster!

Glad to see that there was no injury reported. The car can be replaced-he could have been injured if he had put up a fight.

BART has been here for years and so has the Santa Rita prison. This is just an isolated incident. Considering the security and constant police presence in that area, the car thief was taking a BIG risk.

True regarding BART, although more desparate criminals than ever will come to the areas they think are prime targets. It will only get worse.....especially if the Tri-Valley area is forced to build more 'affordable' housing. Then, the thugs won't even have to take BART.

Well, let's all make an effort to watch for that car! Put the Dublin police number on your cell automatic dial. Know the exact location where you see the car when you make the call.

Brandishing a firearm is still a violent crime. Put this punk in jail forever.

Looks like the picked on the wrong 53 year old. I am 53 and carry a concealed 38 special with me at all time and would have blown him to hell and back and not thought a second about it.

Wow, Nate, yeah that is the solution. Use deadly force. Hopefully no innocent bystanders get blown away in the process. What kind of car do you drive, I want to be on the lookout so I don't accidently cut you off and get a bullet in my back for my troubles.

Curious,

interestingly enough I drive a blue Volkswagen and do not blow away innocent bystanders. I use police hollow points so not many rounds would be necessary only one shot would do the trick.

Good for you Nate! I'm so sick of criminals! Stop taking stuff that does not belong to you!!!! We need more Nates out there protecting themselves.

OK, I'm willing to bet that a few criminals encountering a few Nates would help reduce criminal activity drastically. Most criminals are dumb and lazy but most are probably smart enough to know that if the guy in the parking lot is very possibly carrying a gun, they'll try another vocation.

Curious, why would you think Nate would shoot you just for cutting him off? I don't recall ever hearing about someone with a carry permit shooting people in road rage incidents.

My husband carries a 1911 concealed on the porch all the time because of the stupid idiots that walk around this town, with extra mags during fair time!!!! He wants a CCW but it's impossible to get in Alameda County. He is a former MARINE and he respects the law and would protect any body that needs help in a minute. He does not carry off the porch ever.

Nate - Any help on the CCW

unknown,

I would not even bother with the CCW if I were your husband because in California if you have a concealed weapon and it is detected it is just a misdeamor in this state and they take the weapon you come down and pay a small fine and they give you the weapon back. If you have a baseball bat in your car for instance and it is cut and they see it you receive a felony!!! Makes no sense but hey not a lot does these days. If you really want a CCW you need to know a cop.

Unknown,

If he really wants CCW then he need to show cause to carry. Basically, he will need to show that he feels his life or the life of his family has been threatened to the extent that he needs to protect himself at all times. That is why he needs a cop because they can assist.

I realize that Drexl, but it's called carjacking where I come from (a southern state). Being asked for your keys and then standing there as you watch the guy drive away with it is simply called polite car-stealing.

According to the dictionary, carjacking is the violent theft of an occupied car. This man was not in his car, so this is not a carjacking.
