It's another First Wednesday street party in downtown Pleasanton tonight

Event starts at 6 p.m. with music and wide variety of retail, service specials

The June edition of the First Wednesday Street Party will kick off at 6 p.m. tonight in downtown Pleasanton.

This month's featured band is The Cocktail Monkeys.

In addition to live music, there will be hundreds of vendor booths set up by a wide variety of businesses to market and sell their products and services. There will also be a wine and beer garden set up in the parking lot of Round Table Pizza, where the band is performing.

Main Street will be closed from St. John Street to Old Bernal Avenue from 5 to 10 p.m. There will be plenty of off-Main Street parking available.

In honor of the Cocktail Monkey's performing at tonight's 1st Wednesday I thought I'd offer my rendition of an old time summer favorite cocktail, The Mai Tai.

While it's not looking much like Hawaiian shirt, shorts & tropical drink weather, this concoction (along with a nice paper umbrella) will certainly lift your spirits.

Just remember kiddies, don't drink & drive! It's times like this I'm glad we live about a par 4 from downtown & can walk the course home.

"THE" Mai Tai

In a tall shaker glass filled with ice combine the following

1.5 oz. Pineapple Rum
1.5 oz. Coconut Rum
1.5 oz. Spiced Rum (Capt. Morgan or equivalent)
(& here's the kicker, but trust me it works) .5 oz. Amaretto di Sarona

Top with fresh Pineapple & Orange juice, shake to combine.

Float with Dark Rum, (Meyers or equivalent)splash of Grenadine & garnish with fresh mint, pineapple wedge & of course, an umbrella. Pour into a non-red plastic to go cup & shuffle yourselves downtown.

Mahalo Grille makes a great Mai Tai... perhaps I will start off this evening there for a drink.

Great idea!!!

Well, I went down to the First Wednesday fest this evening. What a waste of time.

The beer garden is completely off limits to those with children. Instead of having a fimily walk up and down Main with a beer or glass of wine with the kids, the fools that run this ass backwards burg would rather cage in a bunch of drunks that drink and drink and drink.

One and done... won't be heading back!!!
