2.1 earthquake strikes near Gilroy

No damage reported in small quake centered 5 miles from city

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.1 struck this morning in Santa Clara County.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at about 12:05 a.m. and had a depth of about 0.2 miles.

The quake was centered 5 miles west-southwest of Gilroy and 18 miles northwest of Hollister, according to the USGS.
