Pleasanton post office to stay open late tonight for tax filers

Postal workers will stand ready to accept returns at Black Avenue center

Pleasanton's main postoffice on Black Avenue will stay open late tonight to accept late tax returns at the drive-through lanes, with all returns deposited before midnight assured of an April 15 postmark.

Although the number of paper filers has decreased over the years as a result of electronic filing options, spokesman Augustine Ruiz said the Postal Service is still anticipating a high volume of tax filers at the post office.

"We have probably the world's most famous procrastinators," Ruiz said.

Ruiz is encouraging tax filers to drop off their mailings prior to the deadline to avoid congestion at the post office. Tax filers are also advised to get their mailings weighted properly and add the appropriate postage.

Besides Pleasanton's postoffice, other nearby facilities that are extending hours tomorrow night include Dublin, Livermore and San Ramon.

I visited the Chabot Drive Post Office today, and was very pleased at the service. They had an extra person to help with packages at the Automatic Mailing Machine, and when she wasn't doing that she helped the people who were sending certified mail to the IRS & Franchise Tax board, by taping the proper documents to our envelopes and assisting us with the proper forms & how to expedite filling them out (if you didn't know what to do). It was very reassuring (to us dummies) and it helped speed up the line.

Unfortunatly, I actually relied on correct information from this article. Unlike many people, I refuse to give the goverment an INTEREST FREE LOAN! and therefore was not going to receive a refund. And I do not give them the money until I have to, which is the 15th. Based on the information on this article, I had planned on mailing it from Black Ave after work, which was going to be late but well within the midnight hours stated in the article. Needless to say I was greeted by very angry and frustated people leaving the Post Office and making plans to drive long distances to find an office that was open, I soon joined them. The Post Office was CLOSED!!! Shame on you and the Post Office for DECEIVING YOR READERS
