From flyers throughout downtown Livermore to continued special events during the week, hundreds are expected to join in festivities all along First Street this week, culminating with food, music and special performances Saturday at the newly-opened Bankhead Theater.

Livermore Downtown executive director Rachael Snedecor said the ArtWalk at the Bankhead is expected to turn all of downtown Livermore into a gallery district, with artists making walking tours and local businesses hosting a variety of art.

Then Saturday night, three of the Valley’s performing arts groups will collaborate for a one-night-only production. This will feature the Livermore-Amador Symphony, Livermore Valley Opera and Shakespeare Associates celebrating the opening of the new Bankhead Theater.

The evening will close with culinary arts and local wines to be offered in a reception featuring the visual arts with the 2007 Art Banner Auction sponsored by Livermore Downtown.

The show, entitled, “All the World’s a Stage: The Bard, Baritones and Bassoons,” is a sampler of sorts, with music, arias, scenes and monologues from past and upcoming productions. Two of the funniest scenes will come from last summer’s performance of “A Comedy of Errors.”

A special feature will be a newly commissioned work by Thomas Darter, “One Step (at a time) Rag,” with Darter on piano. Pleasanton businessman, poet and school board president Jim Ott will emcee the evening festivities.
