A 17-year-old Foothill High School senior who suffered serious head trauma after being “viciously attacked” by several people July 2 is no longer in critical condition, according to Pleasanton Police Sgt. James Knox.
Police were called when a fight broke out during a teen house party in the 1600 block of Whispering Oaks Way around 9:30 p.m. July 2. The fight reportedly started when the boyfriend of a girl who lives at the home asked uninvited guests to leave.
Refusing to leave, the guests began to vandalize his car and several others which were parked in front of the home, police said. Then several suspects allegedly attacked the boyfriend in the street by punching, kicking and hitting him with a wooden chair and a baseball bat. The victim was rushed to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley and was in critical condition. Police have since said he is no longer in critical condition, but declined to list his current status.
Pleasanton police would not disclose the ages of the suspects, but Lt. Darrin Davis said some of those involved were from Southern California and Nevada.
According to a police report released the day after the incident, witnesses identified by name three of the suspects at the scene of the assault. Police said detectives searched for the suspects that same day and located five males who have been identified as suspects or associated with the group. One male juvenile, 17, was arrested on a charge of felony assault with a deadly weapon and one count of felony vandalism.
According to other reports, including one on PleasantonWeekly.com’s Town Square forum, the party was advertised on social networking Web site MySpace.com. “Harry G.,” identified himself as a resident of the same neighborhood as the party and voiced concern about teen parties being held when parents are out of town. He said some of the partygoers were from Pleasanton and some were from out of town.
Asking what could be done to prevent further damage and assaults, he wrote “the teen in our neighborhood was perhaps one blow away from death. Will it take a murder or manslaughter charge against another Pleasanton teen for everyone to wake up to these events? What can parents and neighbors do?”
