Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

This isn’t your grandmother’s garage sale. Touted as one of the biggest, if not the biggest garage sales in the Tri-Valley, the Stoneridge Neighborhood Garage Sale will be held starting bright and early Saturday morning.

Started by local real estate brokers Penny and Gary Palmatier 10 years ago, the sale has grown exponentially and will feature more than 70 participating homes bordered by Stoneridge Drive to the north, West Las Positas Boulevard to the south, Foothill Road to the west and Interstate 680 to the east.

The garage sale runs twice a year, in April and September. The first year, there were just 15 participating homes and one Goodwill truck would come by at the end to collect whatever didn’t sell to be donated to charity. Now, more than 70 homes will lay out goods in the front yard and four Goodwill trucks will come by at the end of the day.

Penny Palmatier said she and her husband are not in the business of putting on garage sales, but love to host the Stoneridge neighborhood sale twice a year to give back to the community. The Palmatiers have been in business for 34 years and work for California United Brokers at 351 St. Mary St. downtown.
