"The New Team" (aka Pleasanton TNT), a 10U travel baseball team made up of 10-year-old boys from Pleasanton and Livermore, made its debut over the weekend in Fremont in a USSSA World Series qualifier.

TNT took first place with a 5-0 sweep. TNT had wins over Pinole Powerhouse (15-0), San Mateo Kado Volcanoes (11-1 and 10-2), and the Reno Nevada Outlaws (18-3) to set up the championship game against the undefeated, Nor Cal top-ranked Back Yard Boyz from Turlock, Calif.

BYB, made up of young phenoms from all over the central valley, came into the game 89-0. Pleasanton TNT got four solid innings from Nic Hermes and took a 5-1 lead into the sixth inning.

The Back Yard Boyz's bats finally came alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. A few hits later, the BYB rallied to make the score 5-4 with two outs when A.J. Curtis struck out the last batter to save the win.

Overall, Pleasanton TNT hit for an astonishing .519 batting average. The win qualifies Pleasanton TNT to play in the 10U World Series in July '06 at the Chino Hills Field of Dreams Park. Team Web site is www.PleasantonTNT.com.
