Help for the elderly

On Saturday Dec. 10, the Tri-Valley Rotary Club will provide assistance to elderly households throughout the Tri-Valley area through its "Senior Support Programs of the Tri-Valley." Club members will be providing a variety of services to the seniors. On the schedule and list of tasks are such things as washing windows, cleaning gutters, trimming bushes, cleaning carpets, turning mattresses and general fix-it items like installing and repairing door and window locks. Each household will also receive a small plate of goodies to help celebrate the holidays.

The Tri-Valley Rotary Club is the newest of six Rotary clubs in the Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore area. It was chartered in May of 2002. The club's weekly meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in Pleasanton at the Girasole Grill on Santa Rita Road. The Pleasanton Community Concert Band and the 91st Division Band will present a holiday concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 11, at Amador Theater, 1155 Santa Rita Road. The theme of the concert is "Joyful Exclamations! A Holiday Celebration." The Pleasanton Community Concert Band is a group of about 50 volunteer musicians. The 91st Division Band is "The Band of the Wild West" and is associated with the United States Army Reserve at Camp Parks. The concert is free. The Pleasanton Police Department is hosting a presentation on identity theft from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the City Council Chambers. Topics include theft, common types of fraud, how to reduce the risk of becoming a victim and what to do if you become a victim of fraud or identity theft. The department recently held a workshop on identity theft this past summer and is putting it on again, recognizing the need for increasing the public's knowledge of this ever growing crime.

Child Care Links announces the sponsorship of the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). All children in attendance at sponsored Day Care Homes will be offered the same meals at no separate charge with no physical segregation of or other discrimination against any child because of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability. The CACFP is available to all eligible participants.

Pleasanton residents interested in gardening can sign up for a plot in a new community garden at Val-Vista Community Park. For a one-time annual fee of $75 ($40 in July), residents can stake out at 12'6"x18" plot beginning in late January. In total, 34 garden patches will be leased, assigned by random draw.
