Pleasanton Seahawks host winter meet
(December 09, 2005) Meet raises money to support swim team
by Susan Miller
The tents will be erected and the Dolores Bengston Aquatic Center will be bustling this weekend when the Pleasanton Seahawks host their annual winter meet this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 10 and 11. More than 550 swimmers from 16 teams, traveling as far away as Stockton and Manteca to the Bay Area, are expected to compete during the two days, despite the cold, which most might not consider swimming weather.
The Seahawks host one or two meets each year for fundraising purposes to support the costs associated with operating this all-year swim team that has been awarded a Silver Medal by USA Swimming for the past four years. There are many Pleasanton businesses that contribute to the success of the meet and the Seahawks. Aidell's Sausage Company, Bagel Street Cafˇ, Chicago's Deli, Clorox, Erik's Deli Care, Heritage Donuts, Hop Yard Alehouse & Grill, Mica's Espresso, Noah's Bagels, Pepsi Cola, Round Table Pizza, Sweet Tomatoes, Straw Hat Pizza, Trader Joe's and Tully's Coffee have all contributed goods or resources to support this meet. Of course, the Seahawks' parents contribute their time and energy to support the operation of this important meet.
In addition to tents and swim parkas, spectators can expect to see swimmers from ages 5 through 18 compete, including world-ranked swimmers.
