Ivan Zimmerman

Ivan Zimmerman, 21, died Dec. 3 after apparently falling from an exterior stairway landing in the Village at Centennial Square, a residential building at San Francisco State University.

He was born Oct. 26, 1984 in Redwood, Calif. and was raised in Pleasanton where he attended Fairlands Elementary and Harvest Park Middle schools before graduating from Amador Valley High School in 2002. He attended San Francisco State University after high school and was in the process of transferring to City College of San Francisco. He majored in computer information systems and planned on working in the field of business application of information technology.

He was very interested in computers and took courses in computer programming and hardware and software maintenance while in high school. He was very athletic and enjoyed baseball, playing in the Pleasanton Little League for five years when he was younger. He was also in the Cub Scouts for three years. He frequently visited Pleasanton, especially after his father was diagnosed with cancer last year, to help his parents with household chores and to spend time with them.

He is survived by his parents Mary and Harold Zimmerman of Pleasanton. His parents are the only family in the area with his mother's side residing in New York and his father's side residing in Oregon.

A visitation service was held at Callaghan Mortuary. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Horseheads, N.Y.
