Letters to the Editor Letters to the Editor (November 18, 2005)

No Home Depot

Editor,

I'm responding to your Oct. 21 article about the planned Home Depot shopping mall at the corner of Bernal Avenue and Stanley Boulevard. Although the development project has not yet been approved by Pleasanton City Council, it surprises me that the first time I and my neighbors in the Autumn Glen neighborhood heard about it was from your article.

The last thing we need is more traffic on Valley Avenue. The I-580 cut-through traffic to Livermore during commute hours is horrendous, with gridlock being the norm on Fridays. Though the project developers argue, "... Home Depot will generate a lot less traffic than would a supermarket, with much of the business occurring on evenings and weekends," the project will take away the few hours of the week that the Autumn Glen neighborhood -- and our neighboring Kolln Street homes -- enjoy with less traffic.

Since I moved here in 1995, the traffic has quadrupled on Valley Avenue following the Ruby Hill development and increased cut-through traffic on I-580. With the new housing development on Busch Road, the Water Park at Shadow Cliffs in the future, and now Home Depot, the traffic will only go from bad to worse. If the City Council members were more open-minded about the Stoneridge extension, there would be fewer "traffic issues" to deal with as more development occurs in town. Heidi Massie Hall Court Hosterman should be impeached

Editor,

Doctors for Disaster Preparedness speakers (like Seals' admiral, 7/11/01) warned of 9/11 and worse future attacks caused by people with their head-in-the-sand like Hosterman.

Hosterman should be impeached for abusing her post by trying to release Al Quaeda in Iraq. Our trap there keeps it from bombing here! Howard Long St. Mary Street Hosterman misused title

Editor,

If Jennifer Hosterman feels she should be able to voice her "opinion on various matters," she should not list "Mayor of Pleasanton" after her name. Her liberal, democrat, anti-war views are not mine and this flagrant use of her title should not be seen as a representation of all the citizens of Pleasanton. JoAnn Weser Sinclair Drive
