Medical center renamed Medical center renamed (November 11, 2005)

The eight-year-old merger of Concord's Mt. Diablo Medical Center with Walnut Creek's John Muir Medical Center will be reflected in the merged facility's name beginning in January. Noting that the system has a growing presence in parts of Alameda and other counties, officials say the name change represents an organization with multiple campuses and an extensive physician network. Some speculate the rebranding is in response to competition in the I-680 corridor from Sutter Health's Palo Alto Medical Foundation and Castro Valley-based Eden Medical Center. The name change decision was announced late last month.
