(November 11, 2005) Accessing the Megan's Law Website
The California Attorney General's office manages and maintains California's Megan's Law Website, a database that lists the names, addresses, crimes and aliases of 63,000 serious and high-risk registered sex offenders in the state. Local police departments regularly add sex offenders registered in their jurisdiction to the Website.
To search for the names and locations of sex offenders in Pleasanton, Alameda County or any other area in California, log on to the Megan's Law Website at http://meganslaw.ca.gov. See full story on page 5.
Identity theft presentation
The Investigations Division of the police department is hosting a presentation on identity theft from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Dec. 13 at the City Council Chambers. The presentation is designed to answer frequently asked questions regarding identity theft and fraud. Topics will include what identity theft is, common types of fraud, how to reduce the risk of becoming an identity theft victim and what to do if you find yourself a victim of identity theft or fraud. Detective Daly Harnish, who has received specialized training in identity theft and fraud, will lead the presentation. Space is limited to the first 100 people.
