Local church offers disaster kits

by Carol Bogart

Been meaning to put together that disaster kit but just can't seem to find the time? For just $10 (and even that is optional), you can take advantage of a community service being offered from 6-8 p.m. Nov. 17 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

The church, located at the intersection of Paseo Santa Cruz and Valley Road, is sponsoring a project that offers 72-hour survival kits to get you through the first few days of a disaster such as an earthquake, terrorist attack, flood or fire. The church will have the supplies. All you have to do is show up and assemble the kit.

To help protect Pleasanton residents in the event such an emergency would occur, the church will have various supplies spread out in its gym for assembling custom survival kits. The kits can be vacuum sealed to help keep water and food items fresh.

The church cautions that supplies are limited. A $10 donation per kit is requested but not required. For more information, visit www.ptowngetsprepared.org.
