Police volunteers honored
(September 02, 2005) The police department honored its 25 volunteers Saturday, August 19 with its Second Annual Volunteer and Reserve Award banquet at the Century House on Santa Rita Rd. Don Clink was honored as Volunteer of the Year for the 471 hours he donated during the year conducting background investigations of volunteer applicants, serving as an oral board panelist for lateral and entry level police officers, working with the Personnel Training Unit and conducting Neighborhood Vacation patrol checks. Jackie Woodruff was recognized for most hours volunteered during the year. She volunteered 505 hours while serving as the department's Youth Diversion Program coordinator. John Polidori was recognized for most patrol hours, totaling 147 hours during the year. The volunteers donated a total of 5,260 during the year.

Parenting workshop open
(September 02, 2005) Parents with teens who are having problems with alcohol, drugs or incorrigible behavior can get help through "The Parent Project," a class held by the Pleasanton Police Department in conjunction with Amador Valley Adult and Community Education. The course will teach parents the skills necessary to change their adolescent's behavior and improve their school attendance and performance.
The program meets for 11 weeks on Tuesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. beginning Sept. 20. Teresa Le May, a teacher at Alisal Elementary School, and Sergeant Brian Laurence from the police department's Youth and Community Services Bureau, will facilitate the class. The course costs $145 and includes a text. Call Amador Valley Adult Education and Community education at 426-4280 to register.

Arrests made at sobriety checkpoint
(September 02, 2005) Four drivers were arrested for Driving Under the Influence at the sobriety checkpoint on northbound Hopyard Rd. at Inglewood Dr. Friday, August 19, police said. The checkpoint was organized by the Pleasanton Police Department and Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Between the hours of 9 p.m. and 2 a.m., 731 vehicles were screened and 30 drivers were given a field sobriety test for intoxication, police said. MADD provided informational packets to all drivers stopped.
