Cal State play ends this weekend

The Highlands Summer Theatre of California State University, East Bay will conclude its season with the musical, “Children of Eden,” at 8 p.m. tonight and again tomorrow night at the University Theatre, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward. A final performance has also been scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

“Children of Eden” tickets are $14 for general admission; $10 for seniors, youth, faculty, and staff; and $8 for Cal State students. They are available one hour before the curtain rises. Reservations can also be made by telephone at (510) 885-3261.

“Children of Eden” is based on the story of Genesis and is an examination of the age-old conflict between parents and children. Adam, Eve, Noah, and the Father who created them deal with the headstrong actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet but inspiring, message that "the hardest part of love ... is letting go.” The score is a mix of pop, folk, rock, reggae and gospel. Donation drive for military

A Military Appreciation Day Donation Drive, sponsored by Operation: S.A.M. “Supporting All Military,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow at Wal-Mart, 4501 Rosewood Drive, Pleasanton. A "Comfort Package of hygiene and other products will be packed and shipped to U.S. military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Some of the most critical items needed are Crystal Lite, eye wash (Visine), nasal spray, deodorant (gel or stick), razors, white cotton tube socks, washcloths, bug repellent, Tylenol, sun block, Tums, Trail Mix, Granola Bars, power drinks and bars, nuts, sunflower seeds, jerky, Slim Jims, Chapstick, medicated anti-fungal cream, muscle cream, foot powder, AA batteries, travel size games, puzzle books and disposable cameras.  Remember to purchase small, travel-size items. All donations are appreciated and tax deductible.

Remembering Carol Bush Remembering Carol Bush (August 19, 2005)

The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a charter bus to take friends of the late Carol Edna Bush to a celebration of her life in Murphys on Sunday, Aug. 28. Ms. Bush, one of the first employees of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce, died at her home in Murphys last July 2 after a long bout with cancer. She was 73.

One of the Chamber’s first employees, she soon became known throughout the Valley for her many initiatives, including establishing the Advantage Pleasanton real estate tour, the historic homes tours, the Pleasanton Pasta Festival, Heritage Days and the Good Times Parade.
