(August 19, 2005) Two teens stabbed in fight
Two 19-year-old men were stabbed with a 4-inch knife at the Ramada Inn in the 5300 block of Owens Ct. early morning on August 11, police said. The stabbing occurred after the two men got in a fistfight with another group of men. Initially an argument took place in the hotel's hallway and reportedly was instigated over a group of girls, police said.
A group of three men instigated the fistfight with four males and fled after coming up on the losing end, according to police. Two men from the losing group returned at approximately 3 a.m. and one carried a knife. One man from Tracy was stabbed in the lower back, left arm and once on both legs and another man from Dublin was stabbed in the right shoulder and had several small punctures in his back, police said. Both were transported by ambulance to Eden Trauma Center in Castro Valley where they were treated for their injuries and later released.
Officer Royce Fontillas found one of the suspects in the area of Conroy's Florist just south of the hotel after hearing a description that was put out on the police radio. The suspect was hiding in the bushes and ran across the street to the Shell gas station where he was then detained. The victim and several witnesses positively identified the suspect as the stabber. The suspect, identified as Garrett Don Couto, a 19-year-old male from San Ramon, was booked at Santa Rita Jail on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, police said. Police have not located the second suspect.

Crystal birds flew the coup
Two pieces of Swarovski Crystal were stolen from Macy's Men's Department Store in Stoneridge Mall sometime between July 30 and August 1, according to a police report filed August 11.
The crystals, with a total value of $5,485, were secured in separate, locked glass cases on the third floor of the store, police said. One crystal was shaped like a mallard duck and the other was a macaw, a bird that is similar to a parrot. There were no signs of forced entry, according to police.
The Santa Anita Macy's Department store reported that the keys to the cases were stolen and since then Swarovski crystal pieces have been stolen from Macy's stores in Valley Fair, Vallco and Lakewood malls, police said. No suspects have been identified in the case.
