Art workshops for kids

Children ages 8 and up are invited to workshops sponsored by the Pleasanton Art League. To be held Aug. 8 and 9, the workshops at the Pleasanton Cultural Arts building, 4455 Black Ave., will include drawing, papermaking, monoprints and painting.

Lawrence Livermore Lab is hosting “Science in the Movies,” a one-hour stage demonstration by veteran special effects coordinator, Steve Wolf, Tuesday, August 9 at the Amador Theater. The show will give audiences a peek behind the scenes into what it takes to create stunts seen in movies and TV. There are two shows from 2-3 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Admission is free and families are welcome. Seating is on a first come, first seated basis. First Wednesday Street Party, 6 to 9 p.m., September 7 in downtown Pleasantonwith music by the Just Truckin band. Foods served at downtown restaurants or offered from street vendors, Livermore Valley wines, imported, domestic and local micro-brewed beers will be available for purchase in the beer and wine garden at the Round Table parking lot at the heart of Main Street.

Downtown merchants and businesses, as well as a variety of other Tri-Valley businesses, will showcase their services and wares in more than 175 booths lining Main Street. Local nonprofit groups will be participating and will feature information about their organizations. As always, the Farmer's Market will offer fresh, just-picked produce.

Main Street will be closed from St. John Street to Old Bernal Avenue from 5 to 10 p.m. There will be plenty of off-Main Street parking available. Booths are sold out for this event.
