Why does it matter who we appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court? Why does it matter who we appoint to the U.S. Supreme Court? (July 29, 2005)

Asked at the Pleasanton Library

Getra Beede Retired, Pleasanton It matters because we have to keep the laws going and not let things get out of hand. Not too liberal and not too conservative. Keep it even. Middle of the road.
Ryan Daniel Student, Livermore I think they should have just an even number from the parties so it's equal, so one side doesn't take over and it's all confusing and they're ruling over ... so they don't destroy the place (the country).
John Mitchell Public employee,Castro Valley Because the Supreme Court has such impact on the way we live, and all the effects of legislation that is played out in our society.
Audrey DeHart Retired, Pleasanton The Supreme Court is the ultimate. You can't go any farther than that. Their decisions are ones we must live with. I'm definitely against abortion. Hopefully there will be some better decisions. Maybe (the new appointee) can have that one vote that will change some of these decisions.
Fred Lee Realtor, Los Angeles area The people to be nominated should have no bias, or any political party. Keep neutral, because it's justice. -Compiled by Sandy Christman
